August 12, 2024, was the day the class of 2028 started freshman year, thus beginning the next four years of high school for these students.
Freshman year is a mixture of emotions for students. It is exciting and overwhelming for the students; the standards for high school are higher and the academic standards are challenging.
“I thought this school was an interesting place with a lot of different people,” says Anna Yim, a freshman at Central High School.
Students at Central have quite a few different ideas and opinions about high school. There are many differences between high school and middle school, and students’ opinions about high school vary.
Londyn Bryant, a freshman at Central, said, “I feel like the major difference between high school and middle school is about the assignments and when they are due. The teachers don’t let students know when assignments are due compared to middle school when due dates were stricter.”
While there are differences between high school and middle school, there are also major differences between freshman year and the rest of high school.
“In freshman year, you are getting used to the school and it can be a little awkward but in sophomore year, you get more comfortable and confident,” said Chole Flynn, a senior at Central, “In my freshman year, we didn’t have the commons yet so getting used to that during my sophomore year was a little difficult.”
