The 2025 Champaign Central Softball Season has been a record-breaking season for the Maroons.
The Maroons have put on amazing performances over the years, but this year is even better. The Champaign Central softball team has a 22-2 record. This is the best record the softball team has had in years. “It’s really exciting that I get to be a part of this historical season,” Grace Bandy, the sophomore varsity Catcher claims. Their first nine games were undefeated, though when it came to their 10th game, the team fell short and got their first loss to Charleston with a score of 5-3. Since then, the Maroons have used that loss to motivate them to try and play even harder than they did before.
The Champaign Central softball team contains two commitments so far this season. The two girls committing are Senior third baseman Maisie Bowers and Senior shortstop Kaitlyn Helm. Bowers will be attending Eureka College to continue her softball career. However, Helm is not going too far from home. She will be attending local Parkland Community College to advance in her career and hopefully go to a four-year university after her two years. Senior Kaitlyn Helm says, “I’m really excited to see what college softball brings to the table, though I am sad that my high school softball career has come to a close.”
Postseason is always a stressful time for all players because it’s either you win and continue, or you lose and go home. Though the Maroons think they have a decent shot at going pretty far this postseason, Sophomore Mya De La Cruz, a member of the varsity team, says, “Given the fact we went so far last year with not a very good record, I truly believe that we can go far this year. Our goal is to make it to sectionals, though you never know when it comes to postseason.”
Overall, the team has continued to have a very positive season and hopes to keep the vibes up when entering the postseason battles.
