After the show’s initial premiere on January 10th, 2020, The Owl House has become one of the most popular and trending Disney shows in the past few years. The Owl House is the first Disney show to have a main character in the LGBTQIA+ community. The show focuses around Luz Noceda, a girl from the Human Realm, who goes on adventures with her friends and found family. However, as the show progresses the theme gains a much darker side with aspects of abuse, depression, manipulation, murder, and many more.

In October 2021, Disney announced that the show was going to be canceled once season two was done airing. Many fans were upset and confused about this and wondered why a cancellation was needed. Over time Disney told the public the show didn’t fit the “Disney Brand”. Fans have speculated that it is because the main character is bisexual and has Amity Blight, a lesbian, as the love interest. This of course has upset many and left people to wonder how many other shows will have the possibility of cancellation in the future.

After the cancellation was revealed, Dana Terrace, the show’s creator and her crew fought back enough to gain three nearly hour-long specials to end the show. Two of these episodes— “Thanks to Them” and “For the Future”—have already been released, but the series finale “Watching and Dreaming” won’t be released until April 8th of this year. Fans such as Avery Torrison and Samaira Sandil were “disappointed” and “angry” over the cancellation. “It’s not fair that a show gets canceled because some executive didn’t like it,” Avery claimed.

Fans like Clowie Love predict that the finale will include a “Collector backstory”, who as of the second-to-last episode is one of the two main antagonists and practically a child with god-like abilities. She would also prefer to have “the Demon Realm and the Human Realm will be able to go freely from both.” These are the two settings in which The Owl House takes place. Clowie also would like to see more moments between some of the relationships in the show such as Raeda, Lumity, and the newly made canon Huntlow. Other fans agree, but don’t want “the ships to take over the whole episode.”

Overall fans just hope for an amazing finale to top off what is possibly Disney’s most popular television series since the end of Amphibia in 2022 and that Disney can see past the “Disney Brand”. Thank you to Dana Terrace for bringing fans a series that will be recognized as a masterpiece for all ages to love and cherish for generations and years to come.
