The long wait is finally over! Crumbl Cookie has officially opened its new location in Champaign. The shop doors were unlocked for the first time to the public on August 23rd of this year. Ever since the sign on their window lit up saying ‘OPEN’ the shop has been busy day in and day out.
The first day of their brand new opening had a line wrapping around the store for nearly the entire day. Many buyers like Frida Yurixie, a senior at Central who was there on opening day, said that it took “more than an hour” just to get from the back of the line into the building. Though, as weeks have gone by, the wait for cookies is much more reasonable compared to before; as most stores are after opening week.
However, while many people waited in that line for almost hours on end, not everyone after having their first taste is wanting a second. Yurixie continued to say that all of the cookies “taste the same” and that the price the cookies are currently sold for are “too expensive.” Though other buyers like Central sophomore Lydia Batey, overall enjoy eating from Crumbl Cookie. Batey only has a few critiques about the food claiming it is “sometimes too much and too rich.” Yet after tasting nearly 10 different flavors and types liking to go back for more, she does agree that it seems a bit “overhyped.” Batey then goes on to mention that she has also eaten at other locations as well and says that “… this location [Champaign] is different, because I would say it’s way more busy since the one here is bigger than other locations.” Although this information will likely change as opening day fades further into the past.
When asking other students at Central, many students like senior Mariam Gadelkarim have had the same responses that “the hype will die out a little after a while,” but that Crumbl will “still be popular and people will still go there, just not as crazy as it was in the beginning.”
Though there are many examples of the brand being overhyped or bad, a large number of people still enjoy the products the company comes out with. The top favorite cookies have been Churro, Semisweet Chocolate Chip, Classic Pink Sugar, and Strawberry Shortcake. When these flavors return to the shelves go check them out!
