After the final pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on April 26th in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the next season of the National Football League is already shaping up to be one many fans are looking forward to.
The 2025 NFL Draft featured the picks of 257 athletes continuing their football careers onto the national level. The night started with the Tennessee Titans selecting Cameron Ward as the number one overall pick in the first round of the Draft. The first round continued with 31 more players being drafted (majority of these players being from the universities of Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, and Georgia). Although the first round was exciting for many franchises, the most memorable part of the draft was actually the man not selected in round one.
University of Colorado’s former star quarterback, Sheuder Sanders, was projected to be drafted as high as the number two pick in the first round of the NFL Draft. However, not only was Sanders not chosen as the number two pick overall, he wasn’t drafted in the entire first round; instead he waited until the fifth round to be selected. However, this pick did not go without notice. Champaign Central High School Senior, Jack Levitan, mentioned that “Shedeur falling in the NFL Draft,” was the most surprising thing to come out of the Draft. He continued to say “I knew he wasn’t gonna go as high as some people thought, but falling to the 5th round was crazy.” Levitan was not the only one who thought this. Multiple commentators expressed their shocked reactions, but some University of Mississippi students turned their shocked reactions into a prank call. The students called Sanders pretending to be the New Orleans Saints, one of the 32 NFL teams. One of these students being Jax Ulbrich, son of Jeff Ulbrich, who is the defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. Since the prank, Jax Ulbrich has gone on to apologize to Sanders in a private phone conversation.
Outside of all the drama, many people have said they don’t believe the Draft was “that bad” this year. Steelers fan, Clowie Love, a senior at CCHS, believes that “the Draft will have the missing part that the team needs,” before continuing to voice her hopes for the newest picks to aid the Steelers in a successful season.
Former CCHS football player, Chris Folsom, thinks that overall the upcoming NFL season will be “good,” and how he predicts that since “some teams had a better draft than others… a bunch of the lesser developed teams from last year will show-up and show-out this season.”
While the Draft was a wild ride with drama, tension, and some fun along the way, it’s all cooking up to be an unforgettable start to the 2025-2026 NFL season.
