Rising football star Ziyir Aker transferred from Central’s rival team, the Centennial Chargers, and he’s starting to show his true potential at Central. Many people have commented on his abilities; he has even been featured on the news multiple times, with claims of being a great football player by reporters.
When asked, Aker explained the reason why he transferred from Centennial to Central, “was because I moved into a different area, and I felt I would show and produce more potential at Central.” Based on the news and what the reporters have been saying since he’s been at Central, he is, in fact, showing lots, maybe even more potential.
Aker has already demonstrated talent at Central in an impressive game against Urbana, scoring 3 touchdowns and gaining 215 yards. This was a great comeback after the rival game between Central and Centennial. The Central vs Centennial game was very intense. Centennial scored the first point and also got the 2-point conversion. The score was 8-0 for a while until Cayden Love scored the only point Central had, to make the score 8-6, but they didn’t get the 2-point conversion. The game stayed close, even came down to the last couple of minutes, but Central came a little short and ended up losing in the final minutes, with the score 8-6. Centennial has been beating Central for quite some time, but when Aker came to Central, we all thought that was going to change, especially with Aker’s mindset and his determination. He played well, with an 80-yard rush against the Chargers.
Aker was distraught after the loss against Centennial. He stated, “Losing to my old team doesn’t feel that good, but it makes me want to play harder.” Aker feels that losing to his old team motivates him to play/work harder next year. He later mentioned, “If we kicked a few field goals and executed better on offense, we could have won the game.”
Despite his feelings about the loss, Akers head coach, Matthew Leskis, believes that the sky is the limit for Ziyir, and he has the talent to play football for a long time. “If he continues to learn, work hard, and takes time in the off season to work on his craft, then he will have a great future in football,” Leskis said.
