Murder Mystery 2 Review

Chloe Flynn

The sequel to the original Netflix romcom, Murder Mystery, has earned mixed reviews across the board. Overall audience reviews rate it a 3.2 out of 10. Top review pages, Rotten Tomatoes, and IMDb rate the movie 46% and a 5.2. As of April 24th, 2023, the reviews on the movie seem to indicate that a viewer either loves it or hates it, with barely any gray area.

The movie starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler is based around a married couple, Audrey and Nick Spitz, doing detective work as their job (feeding off of the original movie ending) and getting invited to the Maharajah’s wedding. In the first movie, the Maharajah was a returning character from India, which is the location where the movie starts off. The main conflict of the movie starts off at the wedding reception when the Maharajah’s top bodyguard is killed and a minute later, the Maharajah is taken away on a speedboat. The movie follows Audrey and Nick on their journey to rescue Maharajah and find out who kidnapped him, while simultaneously dealing with multiple twists and troubles in their own marriage.

Fans such as Kaitlyn Helm and Allison Hobson, who watched both the original and the new sequel film, said they “enjoyed the movie.” Kaitlyn added that she also “loved the amount of action in this one compared to the original.” This is a similar response to other fans’ reviews in regard to the amount of action.

Other fans on platforms like IMDb think “The jokes don’t land, the plot and villain is predictable, acting is bad and it all feels rushed.” This is about all of the negatives to this movie that have been floating around the internet, and what many fans believe was the film’s downfall.

So, if you’re in the mood for an action-filled romcom, go watch Murder Mystery 2! If you already pay for a Netflix account, it is free to watch there.
