With the start of the new year, authors have announced the release of new books that readers are highly expecting. Take a look at this list to see the different genres and authors of 2025 books.
The Crash by Freida McFadden
McFadden, a popular mystery and thriller author, gained popularity with her hit book The Housemaid. Her easy-to-read writing style attracts many readers. McFadden’s new book, The Crash, will follow the same pattern. The book follows Tegan, a pregnant woman who is traveling to stay with her brother while she figures out her life. Unknowingly, she drives straight into a blizzard. A seemingly nice couple offers her a place to stay until the storm rides out. But as time goes on, she realizes that this shelter isn’t what she thought it was. The book was released on January 28th.
Good Dirt by Charmaine Wilkerson
This is Wilkerson’s second novel and is highly anticipated. The story follows Ebony Freeman, an African American girl who lost her brother and family heirloom to a fatal gunshot when she was only ten. Years later, Ebony escapes to France, trying to avoid more slander and media attention after her high-profile relationship comes to an end. While in France, she finds out more about her past than ever before. This novel came out on January 28th.
Katabasis by R.F. Kuang
Kuang gained popularity after her hit book trilogy The Poppy Wars gained a lot of traction on social media. Her in-depth writing and phenomenal character development keep readers entertained. Her new book introduces a strong female lead: Alice Law. Alice is an overachiever whose biggest goal is to be one of the most exceptional magicians in the world. In order to achieve that, she sacrifices everything to work with the best magician in the world, Jacob Grimes. Tragically, he dies in a magical accident that might’ve been Alice’s fault and he is sent to hell. Alice goes to find him but not without her academic rival, Peter Murdoch, who is doing the same thing. Both of them use their knowledge and passion for magic to get through Hell and save Grimes, making them potential allies or worse. This action-packed story comes out on August 28th.
When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi
Scalzi writes a fun take on the metaphor “the moon is a wheel of cheese” in an interesting way. The book has many different perspectives of students, scientists, politicians, teachers, and many more civilians as they adjust to their new lives when a wheel of cheese replaces their moon. This Sci-Fi novel will be released on March 25th.
Never Flinch by Stephen King
World-renowned books and movie adaptations like It, The Shining, and Pet Sematary were written by King. His complex ideas and detailed writing make his books for a special audience; specifically. Specifically, horror lovers who don’t have a weak stomach. King’s new book takes the audience to Buckeye City where detective Izzy Jaynes and Holly Gibney try to uncover the anonymous psycho that sent murderous threats in hopes of avenging an “innocent man.” While they’re trying to prevent homicide in their city, female rights activist Kate McKay is on a tour, speaking to venues of followers and hecklers. However, someone who doesn’t agree with her is targeting her and they are only getting worse. Holly takes over as Kate’s bodyguard and tries to debunk the stalker as well as the possible murderer. King’s ominous story releases on May 27th
Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry
Popular romance writer Emily Henry has released many hit books including The People We Meet on Vacation, Book Lovers, and Beach Read. “I find her books just super joyful and the characters are going through something but there is also a relationship,” Emily Pickell, a librarian at Central said. Henry’s new book follows an enemies-to-lovers plot about two writers, Alice Scott and Hayden Anderson, competing against each other for a spot to write a book about Margaret Ives, a former princess and heiress who is a part of one of the most scandalous families of the 20th century. The trick is, that Margaret is only giving each writer a part of her story that they are not allowed to share with each other. Figure out who gets to write the book and how Hayden and Alice’s relationship will evolve on April 22nd.
Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
Popularly known for her famous Hunger Games series, Collins releases a new perspective on The Games on March 18th. The story follows Haymitch Abernathy, a mentor in the original three books, as he goes through his Games. Because of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes are reaped, turning The Games more deadly than ever. This story has romance, violence, and emotion that Collins captures well.
Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green
Green, known well for his books like All the Bright Places, Turtles All The Way Down, and The Fault in Our Stars, focuses mainly on mental and physical health through his books. He is a known advocate for wider access to healthcare for tuberculosis and other diseases. Green tells the story of his friend Henry whom he met at a hospital while he was on a trip with Partners in Health. The novel explains more about tuberculosis and how it has affected our world and, more specifically, his friend. March 18th is when this book will be released.
