Rating Seasonal Foods

Fall foods are an essential to American traditions. When fall begins, teens & companies go crazy with the fall sweet treats and drinks! I asked some of your classmates what some of their favorite and least favorite fall foods were, and the responses were juicy!

One of the most favored foods was Churros. Ronin Lorr a senior at Central High School said, “They are very good. They have the perfect flavor, balance, and they’re always so warm.” Ronin recommends that the best churros come from the markets in Chicago.

Mr. Sitch, a teacher at Central High School, says that “Pecan pie is the best.” It’s a nostalgic reminder of his grandpa because he loved pecan pie. He described it as, “Delicious! The combined textures of the crunchy with the gooey. It’s sweet but the sweetness is not overpowering.” The best place Mr. Sitch gets his pies from is his mother-in-law. He also hears that Sam’s Club & Costco has some good pies.

Loreal Allen & Isaih Futrell, students at Central High School, are the complete opposite. Loreal thinks that pecans are nasty, because of the texture, and the flavoring of nuts in general. Isaih said, “Pecan pie is old people’s food; it gives me the weirdest taste in my mouth.”

Another unexpected least favored food was caramel apples. Ronin said “The apples are usually way too sour, and the caramel has no flavor.” Loreal and Ronin both agreed that Carmel apples are sticky and annoying to eat.

Pumpkin-flavored things also seemed to be the median for a lot of fall foods. Sitch doesn’t like a lot of pumpkin-flavored things (other than pumpkin spice lattes). He’d much rather carve pumpkins.  Growing up, his aunt would bring pumpkin pie that wasn’t very tasty. Out of the respect that his mom taught him, he ate all of what was on his plate. Now, as an adult, he doesn’t like or eat many pumpkin-flavored things.

Alexis Clark a Senior at Central said “I love pumpkin pie, and pumpkin spice lattes. I love how the flavor is a combination of sweet with some spiciness.” She recommends the best place to buy them is Starbucks.

Futrell says, “Pumpkin pie is just an amazing fall dessert.” He enjoys eating it with friends and family. The best place to buy them is from Walmart, specifically The Patti Labelle brand. Patti Labelle is widely known for her amazing pies and sweets.

Loreal loves her sweet potato pies. She said, “When you warm it up, add some whipped cream to it, and then smoosh it all together it just melts on the tongue and is amazing!”
