Rom-Com Recommendations

Rom-Com+Recommendations

With the Valentine’s Day season upon us, and love in the air, it’s the perfect time to watch a romantic comedy. If you’re having a date night with a boo, hosting a Galentine’s party, or just having a cozy night in bed and need a recommendation, I’ve got you covered. Let it be known that I have not watched many of the best rom-coms out there, these are just my top 6 personal favorites (because who can narrow it down to just 5).

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is a classic. The story follows two people who make opposite bets, one saying he can make anyone fall in love with him in 10 days, while his counterpart is a journalist writing an article about how to lose a guy in 10 days. “The fashion, 2000s aesthetic, and adorable relationship in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days never misses,” said sophomore, Amala Willenbrock.

Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Crazy Rich Asians is a story about a billionaire from Singapore who falls in love with a lower-middle-class native New Yorker. But she doesn’t know about his mass amounts of money. When he takes her back home, or should I say back to his mansions, she is stunned. Chaos ensues, and the most beautiful story unravels in front of you. “I could watch Crazy Rich Asians over and over again, the aesthetic is so well thought out and the story is so amazing,” said sophomore Kara Ficek.

(500) Days of Summer (2009)

If you want something bittersweet that will make you cry of happiness and heartbreak, this movie is for you. (500) Days of Summer is a story of a workplace romance that turns into something completely different. If all you want this Valentine’s Day is to cry, this is perfect for you.

Say Anything (1989)

Say Anything makes me want to cry for different reasons, being the story of a first love that will make you want to melt. The class clown and the valedictorian find an unlikely companion in each other, and her father is not happy about it. Lloyd Dobler is a character so loveable, you’ll fall for him immediately.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)

You have to have been living under a rock to not have seen To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. Peter Kavinsky is the dream boyfriend. This movie makes me so nostalgic for 2018, even though it was less than a decade ago, this movie feels like a period piece. As sophomore Bella Ondevilla said, “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is such an iconic movie that cannot be topped.” Jenny Han knows how to tell a story, and if you fall in love with it, you can watch the whole trilogy.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

I have watched 10 Things I Hate About You at least 20 times. This movie is a modern retelling of The Taming of the Shrew. Two sisters have opposite views on love, but both end up with their perfect match. This movie takes them through bad situations and things everyone has gone through. This story is probably my favorite rom-com of all time.
